The Butt Lift

Remove broken pole butts safely — less dig, less labor, same hole for the new pole.

Patent US8,734,075 B1
Built for Digger truck Kelley Bar
Outcome Reuse the existing hole

Utility Purpose Solutions created The Butt Lift as a labor- and cost-saving device for removing pole butts. It is available now — call or email to order.

The design

A 30-inch long, 1 7/16-inch diameter cold-roll solid shaft with a 45-degree conical point. Fighting is installed at .286 flights per inch, 3.5 inches on center — proven effective in the field, with alternate lengths, diameters, and fight materials available when the job demands it.

The opposite end pins to a hub that mates to the Kelley Bar — round, square, or hex. An 11/16-inch hole matches the Kelley Bar so the tool pins securely. The hub can be welded, pinned, or attached however the crew prefers.

Proven in testing

The Butt Lift has been tested and proven effective and safe for removing pole butts with very little earth disruption. Crews avoid excavating the butt, reduce labor, and help prevent ground-rod loss — a hazard when a rod releases under pull.

Remove multiple butts with the same tool, clean out the existing hole, and set the new pole in a stable ground environment. Designed for straight upward lift only — not side pull or pressure.
